The cat is out of the bag -- Nintendo's much-anticipated DS Lite has been released 11 days early by some Wal-Mart and Target shops. What are the odds you'll be able to find one?
Though the DS Lite isn't supposed to go on sale until June 11th, photos and testimonies show that some over-eager retailers are selling the highly anticipated handhelds some 11 days ahead of schedule.
Reports are trickling in that major retailers Target and Wal-Mart are selling DS Lites nationwide.
UPDATE: A Nintendo representative told us that the company is "looking into this." They promise to report back soon with more updates once they have full details.
There's no doubt that at least a few DS Lites were sold prematurely -- just check the above links for photographic evidence -- but it's impossible to say exactly how widespread the leak is. We called three San Francisco Bay Area Wal-Marts and Targets; none had the DS Lite, and few even knew that the official release date is June 11th. Other areas of the country, of course, might yield better results. There's only one way to find out -- pick up the phone!
